Job Description Our IT mission is to transform the way technology is delivered to customers and colleagues across the world with the emphasis on simplicity, mobility, and efficiency. Data and Analytics will be central to enabling our colleagues to focus more on our customers and increasing revenue by providing innovative and deeper insights into our customers, as well as the ability to use these insights to personalise the customer journey across channels.

This is a great opportunity to work as a Principal Data Designer in a dynamic data and analytics team responsible for determining the global Sage Data strategy and driving adoption of, and insight into, Sage’s centralised data assets including big data sets such as Product telemetry, customer sentiment and click-data and uniting this with master customer and product data. This role will expose the Principal Data Designer to leading edge technologies and infrastructure with the opportunity to establish skills in big data, data science and new analytical methodologies.

Reporting to the Data Development Manager, the Principal Data Designer will be required to contribute to building, enhancing and maintaining data integrations to enable Sage’s business plans and long-term objectives using the identified architecture.
The Principal Data Designer’s primary focus will be on gaining the required skills and knowledge to become an effective and productive member of the team and will design, develop and deliver high quality products and/or systems and services.
Key Responsibilities Key accountabilities and decision ownership: (8 or 10 max)
• Analyse current data models and future design documents to establish the data modelling approach.
• Works with the key business representatives, data owners, end-users, solution designers and data architect to establish data structures to address these requirements.
• Create/maintain the data models using formal modelling notification along with a range of related documentation, such as - dataflow diagram, source to target mapping, conversion logic, business definitions etc. and gain appropriate approvals.
• Own data related test cases and scripts that correspond to business requirements as an input to test planning.
• Work/Liaise with senior leadership, wider business and IT team as required. Ensure key data aspects of the project are appropriately understood by various stakeholders.
• Maintains lineage and data dictionary continuously as modifications and enhancements are made.
• Constantly assess industry best practice against internal methodology and introduce enhancements.
Skills, know-how and experience:
Must have: (5 or 6 Max)
• Significant experience of Data modelling in support of Data Warehouse, BI, Data Analytics, Metadata and complex Data Migration solutions including analysing source systems, reconciliation and DQ issues.
• Significant exposure to relational and NoSQL design methodologies.
• Support creation and maintenance of Data Dictionary
• Good experience in query and reporting tools, such as Business Objects or data discovery tools such as QlikView and Power BI.
• Experience of data governance.
• Strong writing and documentation skills
• Experience of using Erwin or a similar tool.
• Exceptional personal and communication skills
• Writing/executing ETL, Profiling and Data Quality tools.
• Experience in facilitating and hosting workshops and focus groups with SMEs and senior stakeholders.
• Analytical and critical thinking skills prepared to challenge conventional thinking.
• Talent in building relationships with colleagues in other functions
• Detailed understanding, practical experience and proven success in the delivery of data warehousing solutions in an Agile manner

Preferred: (2 or 3 Max)
• A good understanding of advanced analytics and computational / data science approaches, e.g. multivariate modelling, linear regression, machine learning / deep learning, longitudinal analysis / cohort studies, etc;
• Understanding of the Data Technology Data development lifecycle and Data tools and technologies
