Job Purpose

Responsible for implementing data and information standards and quality within the appointed area of responsibility to ensure data is used, accessed and stored according to risk and compliance requirements, policies, standards, processes and procedures. To maintain data throughout the data lifecycle to ensure data quality in the relevant area of responsibility, using the approved tools and methodologies to ultimately improve the adoption of information management.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Identify and define local and enterprise information needs for area of responsibility. Implement data curation practices to ensure that the life span of data is commensurate with requirements. Implement data-quality metrics and requirements, including the values, ranges, and parameters that are acceptable for each data element to ensure consistency and quality of data.
Implement data retention and destruction requirements, criticality and sensitivity used as the basis for applying controls such as access controls, archiving or encryption.
Capture critical data attributes within the group defined applications and governance requirements. Maintain critical data elements by regularly capturing and/or maintaining data attributes to ensure alignment to business requirements and strategy.
Capture all business area terms and definitions with the relevant metadata in the approved enterprise business glossary to ensure completeness of glossary. Assist in the development of terms of reference documents and other operational documents to meet business requests for such documents.
Assist in driving out Reference Data Management involvement, metadata, business rules and records management to align to the Enterprise Data Committee (EDC) dashboard and data strategy. Assist in mapping technical and business metadata to facilitate this process, ensuring it is in accordance with business requirements.
Responsible for the administration, submission and completion of all required paperwork in line with stipulated EDC requirements as well as any documentation required from Risk or for EIM dashboards to meet business requirements.
Collaborate, facilitate and co-ordinate with IT, Data Stewards, Risk, etc. on data by fulfilling role as Subject Matter Expert within area of responsibility. Assist with the authority and control over the management of data and information assets to ensure data standards are adhered to. Facilitate the process flow of data through the environment by working closely with and co-ordinating efforts between Privacy, Information and Operations Risk to execute relevant policies.
Identify anomalies and discrepancies as well as the root causes of these to drive data remediation and data quality. Highlight the business impact of discrepancies and/or anomalies to facilitate data remediation and change processes, according to the prescribed Enterprise Information Management methodology.
Enable data monetisation by allowing data to be used and accessed, ensuring risk avoidance and adherence to data governance principles on risk, security, compliance and privacy.
Facilitate the execution of the roll out of the Data Governance programme to ensure adherence to data governance principles on risk, security, compliance and privacy. Compile minutes for packs or check minutes, to ensure that packs (for which meeting/committee?) are ready. Follow up on action items noted in minutes and monitor that action items are executed.
Identify, classify and document regulatory or legal restrictions, including retention and governance of the data to ensure clear understanding of these within area of responsibility.
Implement activities that will ensure adherence to the Data Governance Framework, facilitating the execution of the Data Governance strategy and initiatives. Work with Data Governance Specialist to prioritise business and information needs
Assist in socialising internal stakeholders on data management, data quality and relevant data sources within area of responsibility to drive effective data management and governance within the organisation. Facilitate the planning of regular and ad-hoc awareness sessions on the data strategy to the business community.
Participate in guilds and other relevant data community forums for knowledge sharing and to ensure group level understanding of effective data management and governance within the organisation.
Preferred Qualification and Experience
Qualifications
Minimum qualification 1 Type of qualification: First Degree
Field of study: Computer Science, Informatics, Information Science or related field.
Other preferred qualifications, certifications or professional memberships Data Management certification (Certified Data Management Practitioners (CDMP), Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP) or related)
