We are currently searching for a Sr. Counsel, Compliance Sub Saharan Africa who will continue the work of building a world-class compliance program for all of Uber. WHAT YOU’LL DO


  • Work directly with Uber’s Director Compliance EMEA, to execute an effective compliance program, including providing ME employees with clear policies and procedures

  • Provide effective and practical compliance counselling and advice in the areas of anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, competitive intelligence and other areas of business conduct
  • Work with the regional compliance resources and Internal Audit to assess anti-corruption risks in the Sub Saharan Africa region, and lead efforts to address those risks in collaboration with regional Legal and Compliance colleagues

  • Collaborate with other leaders on cross-functional initiatives that focus on the mitigation of compliance risks

  • Help us innovate our Compliance program by leveraging Uber’s talent and resources to develop cutting edge Compliance solutions
  • Develop and deliver high-impact, awareness campaigns that are appealing to the Uber population in Sub Saharan Africa
  • Develop training materials and deliver live compliance trainings that demonstrate local relevance, in conjunction with EMEA Director and training specialists based at HQ, education. Monitor the training progress for internal clients (including both e-learning courses and live training sessions)

  • Support with internal investigations of alleged misconduct, including asserted violations of Uber’s Business Conduct Guide, company policies or the law.


WHO YOU ARE



The perfect candidate is passionate about “doing the right thing” whilst adhering to a risk-based compliance approach. He or she knows how to spark others to become just as dedicated to our mission during live trainings and conversations. Furthermore, the ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of 4+ years of experience as a Compliance professional, preferably in a regulated industry.

  • A degree in law, economics, business administration or similar is required however candidates with a different but relevant background are more than welcome to apply.
  • Substantial experience with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and comparable anti-corruption laws and regulations; international competition laws and regulations; global data privacy laws; and familiarity with political contribution and government pay to play rules
  • Experience with the counselling of business leaders to navigate Compliance risks

  • Superior analytical skills, mature judgment and innovative thinking
  • Proven to be a dynamic and resilient individual with the demonstrated ability to make decisions and influence, persuade and build consensus in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness operating in complex organizational environments and self-starter qualities
  • Experience with conducting compliance-related investigations, either in-house, with the government or at a global law firm. Experience conducting international investigations is preferred
  • Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to inspire and influence employees at every level to embrace compliance initiatives
  • Is able and willing to travel internationally
  • Speaks Arabic and English fluently
